ABOUT K9 TRACKING AND RECOVERY

About Us
At K9 Tracking and Recovery, our mission is deeply personal and rooted in the story of Jimmēē, a once-lost English Mastiff who now symbolizes hope and dedication. After spending over a month roaming the hills of Liberty Lake without food, water, or shelter, Jimmēē was finally rescued on October 11, 2020, thanks to the relentless efforts of Founder and CEO Peggy Fietsam and the compassionate community around her.
Jimmēē's journey from a frightened, 86-pound dog to a healthy, happy 129-pound gentle giant inspired the creation of K9 Tracking and Recovery. What began as a labor of love to find Jimmēē's rightful owner evolved into a nonprofit dedicated to reuniting lost and stolen pets with their families. Over the past four years, Peggy and her team of 17 lead volunteers, along with hundreds of social media supporters, have handled more than 2,000 cases, boasting a remarkable 92% success rate.
Our work is driven by a passion for animals and a commitment to never give up on a lost pet. We employ innovative techniques, from surveillance cameras to specialized traps, to ensure the safe recovery of animals. Our services have expanded beyond local recovery to nationwide investigations, even successfully tracking stolen pets across states.
At K9, we understand the emotional toll of losing a beloved pet, and we are here to provide support, resources, and hope. As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of our community to continue this vital work. With your help, we can ensure that no pet remains lost, and every family is made whole again.

Peggy Fietsam, Founder & CEO
Born and raised in the small, rural town of Princeton, Idaho, Peggy Fietsam grew up surrounded by animals on her family’s farm. From an early age, she formed deep bonds with her childhood dogs—Ben, a Border Collie/Shepherd mix, and Peanuts, a spirited Pekingese mix—who became her closest companions. These early experiences fostered Peggy’s lifelong love for animals, a passion that would later shape her life’s work.

Peggy attended Potlatch Elementary, Middle, and High School before pursuing further education at the University of Idaho in Moscow and North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene. She eventually settled in Coeur d'Alene, where she raised her three daughters—Shannon, Sheena, and Shelby.

In addition, Peggy owned and operated Luxury Limousine Service, located in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Spokane, Washington. During this time, she met her husband, Mark, who became both her life partner and her partner in their shared love for animals.

Peggy has always had dogs by her side. Whether greeting her at the door or keeping her company after a long day, dogs have been a constant presence in her life. While working as a bus driver for Spokane Transit Authority (STA), Peggy began helping people in her community reunite with their lost pets by creating and distributing flyers in her free time. Her commitment to helping lost animals only deepened when she retired in 2016 and established K9 Tracking and Recovery as a nonprofit organization.

Since gaining nonprofit status, Peggy has devoted herself fully to her work, reuniting thousands of lost and stolen pets with their owners. Guided by her unwavering belief that every animal deserves to find its way home, Peggy’s organization has grown to serve local communities and clients nationwide.

Peggy’s compassion, determination, and dedication to animals and their families have made her a trusted leader in pet recovery. She continues to work tirelessly to ensure that no pet is left behind, always going the extra mile for the animals she loves.
